Add an expense

An expense is money that leaves for good: food, rent, a subscription. You add it From where the money was, like Wise, To one of your expense categories.

Lesson 10 of 32 2 min
  1. Choose From and To

Tap +, choose Wise as From and Subscriptions as To. Each tile in the form shows what that category holds this month.

Type 15.49 on the calculator. Its + and − let you add up a few numbers, like two items from one receipt, before you tap Add.

New transaction from Wise to Subscriptions: an expense of 15.49 US dollars on moni’s calculator
  2. Add a comment, then Add

A comment says what it was, like Netflix: tap Comment before you add it. Then tap Add, and a banner confirms it with Undo.

Home updates right away: the balance goes down, Expenses goes up and the Budgetometr moves its arc: On track.

Home with the banner Transaction added, −15.49 USD to Subscriptions, and the Budgetometr at 2%, On track
  3. Watch the dial fill

On Expenses, the Subscriptions dial starts to fill: 15.49 of its 30-dollar budget is now spent. Spend it all and it turns black.

The card on top shows 2% of all your budgets spent so far. Tap Subscriptions to see this transaction on its own page.

The Expenses page with 2% spent and the Subscriptions dial half full at −15.49 US dollars

If something goes wrong

I can’t find the category
Tap the section’s name to open it, if it’s folded. No category yet? New category at the end of the list creates one, and moni picks it for you as soon as it’s made.
It was yesterday
Tap Date before you add the expense and choose the day. Only days up to today can be picked, because moni records what has already happened rather than your plans.
I paid in another currency
Pick the place the money left, like Wise in dollars, and type the expense in rupiahs: moni shows both amounts right away. Lesson 12 explains the two currencies.
My budget isn’t moving
Only expenses count toward budgets, and only in categories with a budget. A transfer, like Wise to Cash, leaves the Budgetometr and the dials as they were.
