Set up moni in three steps

When you first open moni, it asks where your money comes from, where you keep it and where it goes. It takes about two minutes, and you can change it all later.

Lesson 1 of 31 2 min
  1. Open moni and tap Start

The welcome screen sums up what moni does. Tap Start to begin. You set moni up first, then start your free months.

Moving from another iPhone? Tap I have my data instead and open your moni backup file. You won’t need to set anything up.

moni’s welcome screen: three things moni does for you, the Start button and I have my data
  2. Name your first income

Type where your money comes from, like Salary or Freelance. Then tap the currency next to it and pick the one you’re paid in.

Choose an icon for it from the groups below the name. When it looks right, tap Create and continue to go on to the next step.

Step 1 of 3, Your first income: the name Salary in US dollars, a row of icons and Create and continue
  3. Add where you keep money

Your first balance is a bank account, a card or cash, like Wise. Enter how much money is in it now, so moni starts from there.

The currency starts as the one from step 1. If the account is in another currency, tap the currency and choose the right one.

Step 2 of 3, Your first balance: the name Wise in US dollars with the card icon, and the field How much money is here now
  4. Add your first expense

Name where your money goes, like Groceries. Give it a monthly budget now or later, and moni shows how much of it is left.

Tap Finish. The currency of this category becomes your main currency: moni shows your balance and all your totals in it.

Step 3 of 3, Your first expense: the name Groceries in Indonesian rupiah with the apple icon from Food, a monthly budget field and Finish
  5. Start your free months

moni shows your plans, with moni Use picked. Tap Start 3 months free and confirm the free trial in Apple’s sheet.

Nothing is paid today. moni reminds you 3 days before the first payment, and you can cancel anytime in App Store settings.

Your moni is ready: your categories are saved, the three plans with moni Use picked, and Start 3 months free
  6. You’re all set

moni opens Home, all at zero for now: it fills in as you add your transactions. Your free three months start from this moment.

Next, tap the + at the bottom of the screen to add your first transaction, or read the next lesson to have a look around.

moni’s Home right after setup: the balance, income and expenses at zero, with places for the Budgetometr, the chart and your first transaction

If something goes wrong

Create and continue stays grey
The category needs a name. If the button is grey even with one, this section already has a category with the same name, and moni tells you so under the name field.
I can’t find my currency
Search by its code, like USD, or by its name, like Rupiah. moni has every currency your iPhone knows, and 50 of the most popular cryptocurrencies as well.
I made a mistake in an earlier step
Tap that step’s bar at the top of the screen to go back, change what you need and tap Save and continue. After the setup, use Edit category in the category’s ··· menu.
I closed moni halfway through
Nothing is lost. The next time you open moni, the welcome screen says Continue instead of Start, and the step you stopped at opens with everything you’ve entered.
Totals are in the wrong currency
Your main currency comes from the first expense category you created. You can change it whenever you want: open Menu, then Settings, and tap Main currency.
When do my free months start?
Right after the setup, when you tap Start 3 months free and confirm with Apple. You get three months by the calendar, and nothing is charged until they end.
I closed Apple’s sheet
moni stays on Your moni is ready, with your categories saved. Tap Start 3 months free again whenever you’re ready, even after you close and reopen moni.
